If you are going on a Crete holiday, it would be practically criminal to skip seeing some of the cities on the island. There are several cities on Crete worth seeing, and are the best places to get an understanding of Cretan culture. Here are some of the places you should visit on a Crete holiday.

Heraklion is the largest city in Crete. Home to approximately 140,000 people, this is also the site of the ruins of Knossos. These ruins date to the Bronze Age. If you’re a history buff, you won’t want to miss this well preserved site. Be sure to swing by Venizelous Square as well. This is a very beautiful place, as is Morosini Fountain. If you’re a sports fan, be sure to take in a soccer match. Crete has two teams, the Ergotelis FC and the OFI Crete. Both teams are based out of Pankritiko Stadium.

There are many other Minoan ruin sites around Crete and there are also several museums that contain many artifacts, art collections and information about this ancient civilization. Among these are the Historical Museum of Crete and the Archaeological Museum. The Historical Museum of Crete covers the more recent history of the island and includes many art displays, while the Archaeological Museum, as you can imagine, includes many artifacts of the ancient Minoans. The Archaeological Museum is located in Heraklion, very close to the Palace of Knossos.

One interesting activity is visiting and hiking the Samaria Gorge National Park. The Samaria Gorge National Park will provide absolutely stunning views and an amazing, pristine feel. However, be prepared that the hike is long and the sun can be very intense. Be prepared to spend an entire afternoon hiking the Samaria Gorge and be sure to bring shoes that will support the rocky paths and long trail.

Lake Voulismeni should not be passed over. You’ll find it near the town of Agios Nikolaos. Bronze Age ruins may be seen here as well. To get a feel for the culture of Crete, Agios Nikolaos is a place you should consider.

Sitia is the smallest town in Crete, but it has a lot to offer. On the east of town on the waterfront you’ll find the Kazarma, a fortress once full of Venetians. Sitia is easy to get to as well the E75 runs right by it, making it very accessible.

If you are planning a Crete holiday, these cities should all be on your list. Each has different historical sites and cultural attractions. There is a lot going on in these cities, and you’ll want to take advantage of them while on a Crete holiday.

Cruising with children in Alaska would be a great educational opportunity for them to learn about the amazing natural untouched landscapes and its wildlife, glaciers and marine life as well as learning about the weather and the possible effects of climate change

If you are traveling with children and are worried about everyone being fed up, then don’t be. There are lots of activities for adults and children so if you want to take part in something the chances are that the children will also be doing something at the same time. There are also onboard sitters to watch your children in the evening

Camp Carnival is available for children on the Carnival Cruise ships. This offers children from the ages of 2-15 the chance to enjoy a range of activities to keep them entertained while you enjoy some of the more adult aspects of your cruise. Camp Carnival is a free service offered by Carnival Cruise lines as part of your cruise. There is also a baby sitting service for a small additional charge in the evenings.

Children aged between 2 and 17 years old can join the Kid’s crew on the Norwegian Cruise Lines cruise ships. Each child can enjoy activities appropriate to their age whilst you are then free to relax and enjoy the things that you want to do.

Whilst you are doing what you want to do your children are being entertained. The younger children can enjoy storytelling and magic shows. The older children may even learn to cook whilst the teenagers are enjoying dances and video games. There are also treasure hunts on the ship and in some cases onshore.

Educational and entertaining games are on offer with Princess cruise lines who also have their own kids program, which includes television times so the kids can watch cartoons. Princess cruise lines offer a separate dinning option so you can eat kids free whilst the children eat with their friends at the kids club. Princess cruise lines also have a sitter service, which offers adults the chance to enjoy the adult evening entertainment whilst the children sleep.

Royal Caribbean offer families some great options with their Ocean Adventure program offering children a great variety of activities and fun games for children aged 3 to 17 years old. Ocean Adventure doesn’t stop there though because they do plan some really amazing family activities for you to enjoy with your child. So you can also have some adult time and join in when you want. All activities are suitable for the children depending on their age as they are placed in groups based on this.

Travelling on a cruise around Alaska could prove to be difficult as would any holiday if the children are bored. By traveling a cruise ship with a children’s activity and entertainments program is a great solution so that everyone has a great vacation together as a family.
