If you are a tourist and are planning a great outdoor vacation going climbing, there are many things that you must learn. Not only do you have to learn of the risks, but you will also have to sign an agreement with a climbing school afterwards.

Many times when people think of risks with rock climbing, they only think of falling. However, there are many things that may happen; and falling is the least of all them! Bodily injuries are the most common.

One of the most common injuries is from the environment around the climber. In fact, pulling your body against gravity entails a lot of strength as well as endurance. Making your body do that in extremely hot or cold is more risky.

There are also many different kinds of injuries due to overusing the body, as well. In fact, many climbers tend to get collateral ligament strains in their fingers. When the fingers are stretched while tense, they ligaments can tear or come loose from the bone. Tendons, alike ligaments, are also at risk. Many of the tendons will become loose from the bone, and not elastic like anymore.

Another problem that many climbers have is lateral epicondylitis; which is an inflammation of the tendons that are attached to the muscles that go from the forearm to elbow. In fact, there are many tendon problems when climbing! Some of the other problems are cubital fossa; is a muscle in the upper arm that strains form the tissue in the elbow. Climber’s finger is another tendon problem that has to do with the flexor tendon pulleys that goes around the joints in the fingers; because of too much weight on them.

Many times climbers will hurt or damage their own body by trying to loosen rocks but end up having their hands, head and shoulders smashed. When not being careful, many life taking hazards could happen, such as an avalanche or going through ice.

One possibility that many beginners think about is falling. Although it is less likely to happen, it is still possible! However, it usually happens when the climbers are tired, dehydrated, or over heated.

When it comes to the safety of yourself, you are the one that will have to speak up when you are not feeling safe! In fact, if you are not comfortable going up, you should still practice as practice makes perfect! Safety is all that you should be thinking about!
